For the winter season, the Domaine du Rayol is hosting an exhibition by Aurélie Trabaud entitled "Posidonia" from December 2, 2023 to March 13, 2024.

This exhibition invites us to look below the horizon, to discover an artist's sensitive approach to a key element of the Mediterranean basin: posidonia. Often labelled as a seaweed, Posidonia is in fact an underwater flowering plant. Using a multitude of media (painting, cartography, watercolor, cyanotype...), the artist explores the Mediterranean seagrass beds.

Through her work, Aurélie Trabaud underlines the vital importance of the natural habitats these plants create, highlighting their indispensable role in the evolution of a very large number of related animal and plant species (source of food, nursery for fish, breeding grounds, etc.). This is a hybrid exhibition, where art and education come together to present a viewpoint that is both poetic and ecological.

In the exhibition room, which faces the sea and the islands of the Parc national de Port-Cros, visitors to the Domaine du Rayol will be able to admire :

two watercolor portraits of two species of Posidonia found around the globe: Posidonia oceanica and Posidonia australis ;
a cartography of the distribution of Posidonia oceanica, endemic to the Mediterranean basin, created using natural materials evocative of beach edges;
textures and colors of the different stages in the plant's life;
cyanotypes highlighting the rich ecosystem they create;
paintings evoking the role of these plants in stabilizing the coastline;
finally, a zoom on a sensitive site, around the Gaou islands in Six-Fours-les-Plages, showing the change in the site's morphology in just a few decades.
