Description
At the Domaine du Rayol, owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, you'll discover the rich underwater flora and fauna of the Baie du Figuier, a marine protected area on the Maures coastline.
The underwater trail is located in the Domaine du Rayol, a 20-hectare protected natural area, including a 7-hectare Mediterranean Garden, facing the islands of Port-Cros and Le Levant. Depart from the Maison de la Plage, wearing a wetsuit, flippers, mask and snorkel, and accompanied by a state-certified guide, for a peaceful exploration of the small seabed.
The seabed is an extension of the Massif des Maures, and a rich source of biodiversity. These protected shores, which have nothing to envy the neighboring îles d'Or, are characterized by the diversity of their habitats (seagrass, sand, rocky seabed or open water), which are home to an exceptional wealth of marine flora and fauna. You may come across: girelles, serrans, labres, starfish, dorados and schools of saupes in the posidonia meadow; flatfish and sea cucumbers on the sandy seabed; sars, wolffish or barracudas in the open water; anemones, octopus, castagnoles... in the crevices of the rocky seabed.
Easy level, beginners accepted, for the whole family aged 8 and over. Only condition: ability to swim. All equipment provided (wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel). Duration: 2 hours, including 45 minutes in the water.
The price includes a visit to the Jardin des Méditerranées. Also on site: "Le Café des Jardiniers" restaurant and tearoom, specialized bookshop, ecological nursery.
