‘La Crèche’ by Maxime Codou

Every year in December, the Saint-Jean chapel in La Garde-Freinet opens its doors to a tradition that has become unmissable: the large Provençal nativity scene designed and created by Maxime Codou and volunteers from the Les Amis de la Crèche association.

For this new edition, Maxime Codou invites visitors on a truly poetic journey. The exhibition offers an enchanted interlude, a return to childhood where memories, emotions and Provençal traditions intermingle.

A journey through two rooms

First room: the journey of the Three Wise Men
From the moment they enter, the decor transports the public alongside the Three Wise Men. Through distant, mysterious landscapes, visitors follow the Evening Star until they arrive in Provence. A magical world, rich in detail and authenticity.

Second room: dreams around every corner
In this room, dreams take centre stage. Scenes of Provençal life, moments frozen in time, the poetry of villages and traditions… Each tableau tells a story, offering a complete immersion in the soul of Provence.

The result of meticulous and passionate work, this nativity scene also highlights local expertise and Provençal heritage. Adults and children alike will find wonder and gentleness in the warm atmosphere of the Saint-Jean chapel.
