Head in the clouds, feet in the water<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nestled at the foot of the Maures Massif, Cogolin is home to one of the largest ports on the C\u00f4te d’Azur: les Marines de Cogolin and Port Cogolin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all began in Pisa in 68 AD. Emperor Nero\u2019s palace steward, Torp\u00e8s, refused to renounce his Christian faith, so the authorities beheaded him. They placed his body in a boat and accompanied it with a rooster and a dog. The boat drifted down the Ligurian coast and washed up on the shore of what is now Saint-Tropez, which took its name from Torp\u00e8s. The dog left the boat and walked to Grimaud. The rooster found refuge in the countryside at the far end of the Gulf, settling in the middle of a flax field. Later, people built a village on that very spot. They named it Cogolin<\/em>, after the \u201cCoq au lin\u201d \u2014 the rooster in the flax.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
