Les porches

Description

If there's one special feature of our village, it's its porches. It's hard not to notice these doorway ornaments as you stroll through these narrow, charming streets.

It's hard not to notice these doorway ornaments as you stroll through these narrow, charming streets.
These porches are always carved from two types of rock, easy to recognize after this description:
- Serpentine, a dark green mineral (copper oxidation) with white or yellowish veins. Its shiny patina and fine grain are reminiscent of snakeskin. It is mainly used as an ornamental stone.
- Bubbly basalt is a grey lava stone that forms the geological substratum of the village. It comes from a volcanic flow dating back over 5 million years. The holes are oxygen bubbles caught in the lava.
It's surprising to find so many porches and so many architectural styles (classical, Gothic, Romanesque) in this rural village of modest houses.
